Dr. Southern is a Missouri native and grew up south of St. Louis.  He received his bachelor of science in biology from the University of Alabama and obtained his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine.  He completed his residency in OB/Gyn at Prisma Health Upstate in Greenville, SC and is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
 
Dr. Southern is fluent in Spanish and enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, woodworking, running and playing golf.
